How to add mixed fractions with common denominator?

Rules for adding mixed fractions with the common denominators:

1. Add the whole numbers;
2. Add the fractions;
3. Convert the result to a mixed fraction (if necessary).

Examples of adding mixed fractions with common denominator

Example 1.

Add mixed fractions with common denominator:

21 + 41
77

1. Add the whole numbers:

2 + 4 = 6

2. Add the fractions:

1 + 1
77

We add the numerator 1 and the numerator 1:

1 + 1 = 1 + 1 = 2
7777

The answer:

21 + 41 = 62
777

Example 2.

Add mixed fractions with common denominator:

22 +35 =

2 + 3 + 2 + 5 =
