Examples of divisibility of negative numbers

Examples of divisibility if the numbers are negative.

Simple examples of divisibility of negative numbers

Example 1.

-4 ÷ 2 = -2

-2 is an integer, such that

-2 * 2 = -4

hence we say that the integer -4 is divisible by 2.

See the definition of divisibility in math.

Example 2.

16 ÷ (-2) = -8

-8 is an integer, such that

-8 * 2 = -16

hence we say that the integer 16 is exactly divisible by -2.

Example 3.

-26 ÷ 2 = -13

-13 is an integer, such that

-13 * 2 = -26

hence we say that the integer -26 is divisible by two.

Example 4.

-453 ÷ 3 = -151

-151 is an integer.

hence we say that the integer -453 is divisible by 3.

Example 5.

-35 ÷ 4 = -8.75

-8.75 is not an integer.

hence we say that the integer -35 is not divisible by 4.
