Multiplying fractions with like denominators is easy.

We multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator.

Examples of multiplying fractions with like denominators

Example 1.

Multiply fractions with like denominators:

2 * 8
55

We multiply the numerator 2 by the numerator 8 and the denominator 5 by the denominator 5:

2 * 8 = 16
5 * 525

Example 2.

Multiply fractions with like denominators:

2 * 8 + x
55

We multiply the numerator 2 by the numerator (8 + x) and the denominator 5 by the denominator 5:

2 * (8 + x) = 16 + 2x
5 * 525

Example 3.

Multiply fractions with like denominators:

2 * 8
5 + x5 + x

Multiply the numerator 2 by the numerator 8 and the denominator (5 + x) by the denominator (5 + x):

2 * 8 = 16
