Multiplying fractions with the same denominator

How do you multiply fractions with the same denominator?

Rule for multiplying fractions with the same denominator:

Multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator.

Examples of multiplying fractions with the same denominator

Example 1.

Multiply fractions with the same denominator:

5 * 3
88

We multiply the numerator 5 by the numerator 3 and the denominator 8 by the denominator 8:

5 * 3 = 15
8 * 864

Example 2.

Multiply fractions with the same denominator:

5 * 3 + a
88

We multiply the numerator 5 by the numerator (3 + a) and the denominator 8 by the denominator 8:

5 * (3 + a) = 15 + 5a
8 * 864

Example 3.

Multiply fractions with the same denominator:

5 * 3
8 + a8 + a

Multiply the numerator 5 by the numerator 3 and the denominator (8 + a) by the denominator (8 + a):

5 * 3 = 15
(8 + a) * (8 + a)(8 + a)2
